Why
Do We Charge For Classes?
Occasionally people ask why we must charge a fee for our
Health and Safety education courses. The American Red Cross
is a non-profit organization funded by donations from the
community. Many of our services such as disaster relief, armed
forces emergency services and health fairs are free to those
who need them. We charge a fee for our Health and Safety
courses in order to cover some of the costs of this program,
as well as to expand our services to the public, diversify and
stabilize our income base and maximize the use of our
charitable dollars.
The fees
for our Health and safety education courses cover
approximately 66% of their costs for equipment, maintenance of
this equipment, books, facilities and administrative support.
Our
Standards are high. The American Red Cross is a leader in
providing Health and Safety courses. We have provided First
Aid training for over 80 years. The American Red Cross
certificate is recognized and accepted by many national
institutions and organizations. We maintain a 12:1 participant
to instructor ratio in our Community courses and generally
provide a 1:1 ratio of participant to manikin. Our Instructors
are thoroughly trained, instruct with the most up-to-date
nationally recognized methods, and are supervised and
evaluated. We provide reliable, responsive class scheduling,
as well as administrative record keeping and documentation.
